Susan Viles began her teaching career at Shattuck Public Schools in Shattuck, Oklahoma where she taught 3rd Grade for five years. She then moved back to her hometown of Follett, Texas and taught 2nd grade for two years. Next came Forgan, Oklahoma for the next eleven years where she taught 5th and 6th grade math and reading. She also coached 5th & 6th basketball and track and was High School Assistant Coach for basketball, track, and softball. Life took her next to Chisholm Public Schools in Enid, OK for the next three years as a Title I teacher. Susan joined Woodward Public School in 2006 and has served as a Title I teacher, Title I Interventionist, and for the past eight years as the District Test/Reading Sufficiency Act Coordinator.
After graduating High School from Follett, Texas, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. She then went on to obtain her Master's Degree and Reading Specialist Certification from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. She spent many summers working for Center for Innovation in Education out of Saratoga, California as a math consultant presenting a workshop, Math a Way of Thinking, to educators across the United States.
Susan has served on different advisory boards with the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Her most recent service was with the Assessment and Accountability Task Force who represented different stakeholders in education working towards a more reliable, valid, and meaningful accountability system.
Susan and her husband, Bob Viles, have five children and six grandkids. They enjoy golfing, traveling, and spending time with family!
